The Bear Shaman Pole is a remarkable argillite carving of size and substance. The Bear Shaman is carved in the old style in which shamans were shown. He holds a transformational raven rattle and a boxwood bear paw rattle. The bear crest is on his skirt and a bear is also peering out between the thunderbirds' ears. The thunderbird shows the transformational process of human hands into claws, Fossil Mammoth ivory are inlaid for teeth with killerwhale in beak. This is a rare occurrence for such a generous and detailed argillite pole to appear amongst the more conservative sizes. Definitely considered a monumental carving for the serious argillite pole collector of any era. |
