Myles, who was born in 1958 in Haida Gwaii, started carving at the age of 13. Myles has a smooth and fluid style, which can be seen in his argillite jewelry pieces, small carvings, and totem poles. He was mentored by the late Richard Yeltatzie, an established Haida artist and his brother-in-law, Haida carver Steven Collinson.

Myles is dedicated to the craft of carving argillite and has mentored many young people to continue this skill and knowledge essential to Haida culture and history. Amy Edgars, who is a young Haida argillite carver was also taught by Myles, who is her father. Myles' works closely with his son and daughter to pass on argillite knowledge through carving and collecting argillite on Slatechuck Mountain, a protected site in Haida Gwaii for sourcing argillite.

Argillite is a type of slate uniquely found in Haida Gwaii and protected by the Council of the Haida Nation as a stone exclusively carved by the Haida people.
