Their name, which means “The Tide that Overcame Everything,” was given by their sister, Raven Thorgeirson (Pearson Leblanc). Guustl’as grew up in Skidegate and is a proud member of the Xaayda\/Xaada Nation, with roots in both Southern and Northern Haida Gwaii. In 2020, Robin Rorick mentored Guustl’as in Haida arts. From 2022 to 2024, they studied at the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, completing a two-year diploma program. They plan to keep learning and mastering formline and sculpture, aiming to create art that captivates and engages.
