    About the Artist

Born and raised in Haida Gwaii, Alfred Davidson is from the T'saahl Laanaas eagle clan and comes from a long line of Haida artists. Alfred grew up in his father’s carving room, observing and learning the rules of Haida art, cedar carving, and argillite. From 2012-2014, Alfred apprenticed under well known Haida artist Lyle Campbell. In this apprenticeship Alfred learned more about traditional Haida formline design, painting, and wood carving.

He received mentorship in design techniques under the master carver Robert Davidson. Alfred also attended the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art, Native Education College, Emily Carr University of Art & Design, and took part in the Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs Program for Artists. Alfred creates traditional Haida formline art works in multimedia such as painting, wood carving, metal engraving, and regalia making.
