He was mentored by the late Richard Yeltatzie, an established Haida artist and his brother-in-law, Haida carver Steven Collinson.

Myles is dedicated to the craft of carving argillite and has mentored many young people to continue this skill and knowledge essential to Haida culture and history. Amy Edgars, who is a young Haida argillite carver was also taught by Myles, who is her father. Myles' works closely with his son and daughter to pass on argillite knowledge through carving and collecting argillite on Slatechuck Mountain, a protected site in Haida Gwaii for sourcing argillite.
