Ceremonial/Art is thrilled to present Wild Flowers by Haida artist Shoshannah Greene / SGidGang.Xaal; a collection of recent works that challenge traditional mediums and explore the complexities of grief. Utilizing formline and passed-down cultural stories to colour her work, Shoshannah brings a contemporary lens to the Pacific Northwest artistic style of art-making all while navigating the ups and downs of what it means to live a life. Loss, joy, care; all themes that are prevalent throughout the works that make up Wild Flowers. Her traditional Haida name SGidGang.Xaal translates to “Wild Rose” which informed the title of the show - flowers that have never required human intervention, resilient life which persists.

Shoshannah works in both the digital and physical realm, presenting an uncanny relationship between the two. The exhibition combines both of these worlds in a way where the viewer is left questioning which is which; and it is this ambiguous presence that makes Shoshannah’s work so captivating.
