Eat, Rest and Rove in Between - Inspired by Women Who Run with the Wolves

Eat, Rest and Rove in Between - Inspired by Women Who Run with the Wolves

By Guest Contributor, Rose Cortez, Moksha Yoga Instructor

“The body is a multilingual being.  It speaks through its colour and its temperature, the flush of recognition, the glow of love, the ash of pain, the heat of arousal, the coldness of nonconviction.  It speaks through its constant tiny dance, sometimes swaying, sometimes a- jitter, sometimes trembling. It speaks through the leaping of the heart, the falling of the spirit, the pit at the centre, and rising hope.”

      – Women WhoRun With the Wolves, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

For the past eight years of roving and practicing yoga, I’ve been carrying with me one of my fave life book, Women Who Run With the Wolves, by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes. It has taught me one biggest life lesson: to continue waking up to my current state of being and take good care of everyday strength, resilience and gentle grace of the mind and body. These past few years have not been a walk in the park kind of adventure, but I am so grateful to have met so many beautiful beings from all around the world who are able to share a path together through good and bad times. Recently I had the honour to re-read the Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chogyam Trungpa and it reminded me again and again that this present moment we call life is sacred. As a millennial, it is not easy to “unplug” or “heal” or “to-get-to-know-yourself” these days. We are somehow always need to be “ON” or connected in such a way that we forget to “Rest”.  It can be confusing for the mental and physical health and well-being if we don’t reconnect to these…

      “General Wolf Rules for Life

      1.     Eat

      2.     Rest

      3.     Rove in between

      4.     Render in loyalty

      5.     Love the children

      6.     Cavil in moonlight

      7.     Tune your ears

      8.     Attend to the bones

      9.     Make love

      10.  Howl often”

Women Who Run With the Wolves, Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

My favourites are #1, 2 and 3 in that exact order.  These reminders along with a yoga practice has taught me to forgive, to be grateful everyday to life, to trust to love again and again, to find compassion, to let go of grudge, pain and struggle, to heal inflammations of many kinds, to centre the mind and body while being aware of breath to create space. Breathing and stretching the body helps to declutter both the mind and the body.  As soon as you breathe, it starts to feel lighter inside and around you. This takes constant practice and a life long journey of learning.

Big Haaw’a Haida Gwaii families for always welcoming me back with the warmest of hearts!
