About the Founder, Dutes Dutheil

Dutes Dutheil was drawn to the art of jewelry making as a child. At the age of 12, he began by cutting and polishing stones at home. In the years since, he began to explore the world and he learned of the healing properties of crystals and gems.

In 1970 Dutes arrived in Haida Gwaii. He lived on north beach and then the Wild West Coast at North Island (Langara). Later, he moved to Tlell where he transformed a rugged piece of land into a warm home filled with art, love and stories. Here, he also worked vigorously to develop his craft. Working with stone, gems, crystals, silver and gold, Dutes began to build his unique style of jewelry. He fused the healing properties of international gemstones with the magic of local rocks and minerals, creating a product that was infused with the best properties of each.

Years later, Crystal Cabin Gallery has become a local institution. It is a home, a workshop and a gallery that chronicles the story and energy of the archipelago. Dutes continues to travel regularly in search of new crystals and gems, bringing them back to transform them with his own personal magic.

Dutes is always happy to chat with visitors and guests about his remarkable path. Stop by the shop or send an email to learn more about the history and power of his collection of treasures.
