        The Importance of Amber

        The Importance of Amber

From its rich yellow-gold colour to its captivating hidden fossils, Amber is known worldwide as a high-valued material. This fossilized tree resin is used for various things like jewelry and natural healing. Amber is appreciated for its unique process and its precious elements held within.

        What is it?

According to the book Love is in the Earth by Melody, “Amber is a fossilized resin usually golden to yellow-brown in colour. Some amber has been found to contain red, blue, or green hues.” There is a wide variety of variations in amber and these colours form depending on the way that bubbles may have formed or on the tree that the amber came from.  Amber is only found in a few locations around the world. For example, in the Baltic region, the resin which forms amber usually comes from pine trees. People have been known to use Amber for its strong natural healing abilities, and are drawn to its natural beauty when used in jewelry pieces for over 50 million years.

Natural Amber Earrings with Visible Insect Inclusions: These earrings are made of natural and genuine amber formed 50 million years ago in the Baltic region. They carry a marvellous record of the ancient past. Each amber earring contains an inclusion of an ancient insect. The insects are highly detailed, with visible wings, antenna, and body. These small creatures provide a glimpse into the prehistoric past.

        How is it Formed?

Amber is formed from resin that is expelled from trees that hardens over time. As the resin drips in liquid form down the tree, it may pick up items laying on the surface of the tree trunk, such as leaves, bark, and insects. As the resin settles, it eventually hardens into a crystal-like form, trapping the object inside and creating a fossil. For this reason, each fossil is special in its own way, making each amber piece unique.

The Colours of Amber and Chakras

As we’ve mentioned, amber is not only found in the common yellow-gold colour but can also be found in many other variations of colours. The different variations of amber may be used on the appropriate chakras to facilitate opening and cleansing. Possible amber colours include:

        • Light yellow amber: Very common
        • Dark yellow amber: Very common
        • White amber: Rare
        • Green amber: Very rare
        • Red amber: Very rare
        • Blue amber: Extremely rare
        • Black amber: Extremely rare

          What is it used for?

Amber is commonly used for its healing abilities and is highly sought after in the form of pieces of jewelry. It has many metaphysical properties and this makes amber one of the most appreciated stones. In Melody’s book, amber’s healing properties are discussed: “Amber allows the body to heal itself by absorbing and transmuting negative energy into positive energy”.
