Custom Jewelry FAQ

How do I get started?

The easiest and quickest way to get the process moving is to use the contact form on this page. But if you are feeling like you need to talk to someone right away, simply email us at store@crystalcabingallery.com or call us at 1-250-557-4383. Simply share your idea, a general budget, and any inspiration you have. There are no wrong answers as we love hearing your vision and helping it take shape.

What kinds of custom jewelry can I order?

We can create rings (including wedding bands and engagement rings), bracelets, pendants, earrings, and necklaces. Pieces can be made in sterling silver, copper, or gold (yellow, rose or white), or a combination of metals, and can incorporate gemstones, emeralds, diamonds, jade, or other meaningful stones.

How long does a custom jewelry piece take?

Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the piece and the artist's schedule. We recommend reaching out as early as possible. We suggest starting the process 8 to 12 weeks before you need the piece. That being said, if there is a nearing deadline, such as a wedding, engagement, or special birthday or anniversary, we can usually accommodate rush orders.

How do I know my ring size?

Once we've discussed the style and width of the ring you'd like, we recommend visiting a local jeweller in your area to get your finger professionally measured for a ring of that width — ring width affects sizing. After we've gathered all of the information about the type of ring to be made, we will provide you with specific instructions to bring to your local jeweller. If the ring is a surprise gift, just let us know, and we'll work with you to figure out the best way to determine the ring size.

Can I incorporate a design that is meaningful to me?

Yes, and this is one of our favourite parts of the process. Many of our clients commission pieces that honour a personal story, a milestone, or an animal that holds meaning for them. Our artists are skilled at weaving these important elements into their designs beautifully and respectfully.

I don't know much about Indigenous Northwest Coast jewelry. Can you help?

Absolutely. That's part of what we do. Our team will walk you through the different styles, artists, and design elements so you can find something that truly resonates with you. You're welcome to browse our gallery of past custom jewelry pieces for inspiration, and we'll ask questions to help bring your idea to life.

Which artists will create my piece?

We work with artists from the Haida, Gitxsan, Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuxalk and Ts'msyen Nations, alongside other Northwest Coast Indigenous artists. Once we understand what you're looking for, we'll recommend the artist whose style, expertise, and availability is the best fit for your vision.

Can I use my own gold or stones in a custom piece?

We're happy to incorporate gemstones you provide. However, please note that we are not able to accommodate requests that involve melting or repurposing existing gold or metal jewelry.

Can I order from outside of Canada?

Yes! We ship internationally and have completed custom orders for clients across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and beyond. We'll keep you updated every step of the way and arrange delivery right to your door.

What if I'm not sure what I want?

Many of our most cherished commissions started with just a feeling or a loose idea. You might know you want something that includes an eagle, or a piece that feels connected to the ocean. That is simply enough to start a conversation. We'll help you discover the rest.

How much does a custom jewelry piece cost?

Price depends on the type of piece, metal, design complexity, size, artist, and whether stones are included. We work with a wide range of budgets and will always be upfront with you about costs before any work begins.
