A rare, original work by Haida artist Danielle Louise Allard, apprentice to Christian White.
Inspiration Behind the Octopus Paddle: Danielle Louise Allard’s Núu K’ud Gusdlaang (Very Hungry Octopus) is built around the behaviour of the octopus itself. The flowing layout, the crossing tentacles reaching toward the clamshell, and the shifting colours all echo its movement in water. The octopus's head is rendered in a rich colour gradient that draws you in immediately. The turquoise and gold details add highlights, giving the paddle a sense of motion from tip to base.
Designed with intention and brought to life with Allard's refined abilities in painting, this piece stands as a unique original — a rare example of technique and storytelling working together.
