Description

This original hand-carved Haida art paddle depicts a human figure under the guidance of the supernatural Mouse Woman. Known for offering direction and insight, Mouse Woman is a quiet but omnipresent force who gently guides us on our journey. As the artist explains, "With the help of Mouse Woman, we never lose our way."

About the Artist: Billy NC Yovanovich, Kuuhlaanuu, is a Haida artist from the Ts’aahl Eagle clan. He has apprenticed under both Garner Moody and the late Timmy Boyko for carving. He also learned formline and design from Robert Davidson and the late Ben Davidson. "With all of these different teachers, I have learned a unique style that is my own, taking inspiration from all of my teachings." Yovanovich's main medium of focus is wood, working on monumental totem poles, paddles, and masks.
