Description

Own an original Haida bentwood box, designed and hand-painted by artist Danielle Louise Allard, and inspired by the rich creation stories of the Haida Nation. This artist creates only a few pieces each year; don't miss your chance to own a piece from her limited collection.

SGuuluu Jaad, also known as Foam Woman, is an important supernatural figure in Haida stories. She came from the ocean and gave birth to all the Raven moieties. Many supernatural beings mentioned in Haida histories are associated with natural events that occurred thousands of years ago, including SGuuluu Jaad.

One corner of the box reveals a raven painted in dark blue acrylic paint, emerging through a cluster of bubbles. Across from it, SGuuluu Jaad appears, encircled by shimmering bubbles. The lid is adorned with bubbles that let the iridescent paint gleam, enhancing the cedar’s natural beauty.

Crafted with time-honoured steam-bending techniques, each Northwest Coast bentwood box is both a functional treasure and a work of art. A perfect addition for collectors and art lovers alike.

Shipping is included to Canada and the USA. This item ships tariff-free to the United States.

About the artist: Danielle Louise Allard, who carries the names Skil Jaday Good Fortune Woman and Ta K'udlan Jaadaas Good Painter Woman, and is from the Yahgu'jaanaas clan, comes to Haida formline design from a more than 20-year-established art practice in fine arts, painting and fashion design. In 2020, she returned home to Haida Gwaii with the goal of immersing herself in the Haida arts. With the support of her mentor, master Haida artist Christian White, Danielle deepened her understanding of the principles and discipline of formline design. Today, her work embodies a feminine flow, merging her Haida heritage with the unique strengths shaped through her broader artistic practice.
